Happy Groundhog Day

Well even though it’s been a tough year for most of us, the old hog is doing well.

Three squares a day, someone cleans up after him and he still has a place to live.

Whether he see’s his shadow or not you know the story. So cheer up, we made it this far and the deep freeze is almost over. That is good news for all the homeless in the north of the country who didn’t make it south for the winter.

So you go groundhog!

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL

Craig Ferguson speaks from the heart. Alcoholism. Start here for the New Year and I promise you this, it may be difficult but you will feel better for it!

Ten more years gone by. Welcome 2010!

Well ten more years have passed and a lot has happened since the year 2000 came to light.

All the usual worldly stuff you would expect and then there were all the things that happened to you and your family also.

Births, deaths, weddings, divorces, new homes, lost homes, new jobs and ended careers. Yes we all have been through a lot these past years.

Most people don’t begin to feel older until their forties or fifties, which is what makes me feel that the retirement age is unfair, ( more about that later!).

Have you gotten to the point of finally feeling older? Now figure out whether or not it’s just your age or if it was all of the stuff that happened in your life in the past ten years. For me, I think it was all the stuff.

If it was your age, than just go with the flow or have a mid-life crisis like everyone else does. Start wearing your bell bottom jeans again and wigging out your teens, or take up skiing. But if it was all the stuff, than you now have a choice.

You can either feel older and go with that, if the feeling doesn’t bother you, or you can do something about it.

You can start to realize that things happen and usually without much control of the situations, although we are each responsible for our own outcome on things also..but either way, you made it!

We have to do our best to try to make things happen smoothly and we now have another chance to do it again. Ten more Years. Get it into your head that you are only ten years older and are still going strong.

Now make it a part of your daily composure to do the best you can at everything you do in the next ten years and go at it whole hog. Do more stuff with your kids, family, and friends and especially do more things for yourself too. Take some classes, go traveling or make that career change. It’s your life and no one not even your wedded partner has any right to stop you from doing something, unless it is wrong or will cause harm to yourself, your family and friends or others.

So wake up on the First of 2010, grab life by the tail and if it turns around and bites you in the next ten years, than Bite it Back and you won’t feel as old!!! So go on and feel young like you used to. After all, you are only ten years older and you aren’t really that old now, are you!!

P.S. If you decide to do this, you just made a new years resolution for not just a year, but for Ten Years, (fooled ya) but I know you can do it, because you decided you were going to and without making a resolution.

This Christmas Season, Pick On Someone during the Twelve Days of Christmas.

December 13, 2009 1 comment

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Well it’s the Holiday Season! We are into the Twelve days of Christmas. Festive decorations and Warm songs of Good Cheer and Love are beginning to fill the air, most everywhere.

Now I don’t know if you noticed it or not, but many people are without that spirit this year. Many more homes stand dark, undecorated or empty than normal.

There is a lot of rudeness in and around stores, due to the hustle and bustle that is brought about by all the retailers pushing their merchandise for you to buy and there is also the jobless, who have attitudes of being forgotten about by society and just can’t find it in their hearts to feel much Good Cheer this year.

Yes it is the season of Good Cheer, Love and Gift Giving.

Many people this year are going to experience their first Christmas without their home or even without their own decorations that they have put up for years. They have been part of the economic crisis that took a direct hit on their job and have lost much, if not all of what they had.

So this Christmas season, why not make it a new tradition for your family or yourself to Pick On Someone!

Anyone you, or someone you know, knows, who has lost their job, is a person or family to Pick On.

Now that you found someone to Pick On, make it a family effort and get the kids thinking about ways to Pick On that person or other family.

It’s a matter of giving what you can give to them, or helping them out in any way you can and as many ways as you can, even if it’s just shoveling their walk, it will help.

Give them money, food, food baskets, clothes, gifts for them, find out what gifts they need to buy for Christmas and buy some of them, gas money, offer to pay down one of their bills, do some of their errands, give them rides, buy toys for them to give to their kids, buy pet food and the list goes on as to how you can help them out.

Now just imagine if everyone who hasn’t been effected, chose someone to Pick On this year. Imagine all of the joy that it would give to those who need it and how much easier more people would make it through the holidays this season.

What if every business chose just one family to Pick On and paid for gifts that their own employees pick out for that family? Think of that. I guess they did and the tiny cut in their profits scared them!

What a Wonderful Season of  Good Cheer and Gift Giving it would Truly Be for Everyone, if Everyone could Pick On somebody.

On the First day of Christmas, Someone Gave to Me…. a Beautiful, 6 foot Christmas tree, with a stand!

On the Second day of Christmas, Someone Gave to Me…. Five sets of Colorful Holiday Lights and a Beautiful, 6 foot Christmas tree, with a stand!

On the Third day of Christmas, Someone Gave to Me…. A Clapper, Five sets of Colorful Holiday Lights and a Beautiful, 6 foot Christmas tree, with a stand!

Now go give the person you choose to Pick On, Your Twelve Days.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I extend to everyone a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving. Especially to those in the U.S. today who are feeling the pain of the recession. Those of you who have a loved one who won’t be with you this year because of war or other hardship or service. I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving.

To all of the people who used to hang up their childrens’ hand drawn turkeys on the wall, that are now just placed into a box or just tucked away in the pages of a book, because you have lost your home due to the economy and now have nowhere to hang them. I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving.

To all of the people who will not be cooking a turkey this year, because your oven along with most of your belongings is either in storage somewhere or was sold at a yard sale to pay a bill, I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving.

To everyone that just recently bought a lottery ticket with your last buck, thinking it’s your only hope, but knowing that it’s only just a dream. I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving.

To all those individuals who have worked the soup kitchens and food pantry’s the past year, and have seen the general situations of the people change from those individuals who have personal problems who will never work, to those who have been looking for a job and need help feeding their families. I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving.

To all the children and teens of the families who have had to either make sacrifices or give up some of the things we normally take for granted, like joining a team in school, going to a movie or even getting to go back to the same school this year as last year. I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving.

To all the little children who are too young to understand that their parents have gone to bed hungry many nights, so they could make sure you had enough to eat. One day you will ask questions and understand. I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving.

To those of you who have had to give up your beloved pets, because you just couldn’t keep them any longer. They were like family members and it hurts. I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving.

Finally, to everyone in America, and I can’t forget those of you who do understand what millions of people are going through, while hurting a little yourself, and still have found a way to give, help and donate to the jobless and homeless till it hurts. I wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving.

We can all still give thanks for just being able to be around anyone if we choose, even if it’s a stranger across the table at a soup kitchen. The days and times will change and someday we will each be forced to look back at these times because of an inquisitive question from a child, so that they may understand. It will only be then, that you will really understand for yourself, what you really have gone through now.

Happy Thanksgiving All.

Petticoat Junction.

Who Remembers Petticoat Junction?

I needed a dose of Petticoat Junction. That theme song used to just take you to a place where life was daily and a summer day was spent fishing or sipping cold lemonade while sitting in a comfortable chair on the old wood front porch of the slow moving Shady Rest Hotel.

If you have never seen the show than you should try to find it on the web. It was funny and laid back and it succeeded in taking your mind off of things for a while.

I just wish there were more shows along that line nowadays, because life tends to get to fast for everyone every now and then, and just like a good vacation everyone needs a good break every once in a while.

Happy Fourth of July!

Wow, It’s the Fourth 0f July already. This is the holiday that usually signals the middle of the summer vacation season. The proper name is Independence Day. It is the day that America declared their Independence from England and the Queen of England. We were now on our own to live as we like.

We celebrate the fourth with pick nicks, family gatherings and fireworks. With the economy the way it is, the firework celebrations may be a little smaller or canceled in a few spots all together, due to budget restraints. If that is the case just remember this.

The short display, reflects the hardships that millions of your fellow Americans are experiencing in trying to keep up with the bills that they owe.

Not having a display at all, is reflecting all of the people who have lost their homes. They do not have a home to go to at the end of their day any more.

So if you feel slighted by these two fireworks shortcomings, just remember as you are driving home that you not only could afford the gas to drive there, but you also have a home to return to when you get back.

It’s time for people to start putting themselves in other peoples shoes, just for a minute. This way we can look at the overall situation many fellow Americans are in and realize that missing some fireworks just doesn’t amount up to anything the unfortunate are going through.

Loosing a few fireworks for a holiday, doesn’t compare to what some people have lost in their own lives.

Loose your job or house or have trouble paying your bills and I bet you wouldn’t complain about anything missing this fourth of July either.

I hope that sometime in the near future, all the military will be home and the unemployment and foreclosure rates will be near zero, so we can all celebrate that Independence Day, together.

Happy Fathers Day.

Just wanted to take a minute and shout out a Happy Fathers Day to all of the great dad’s out there.

I know first hand that being a dad is more than just being there when the baby is born. To be a real dad we have to give the kids all the time and guidance that they need, to grow up to become fine individuals. If we could have done better with things that gave us problems in our lives, than help them to bypass the problems we encountered, by teaching them right.

No one can be a good dad and teach their children without being in their child’s life. So here’s to all those dads out there who are doing things right, by guiding and being with their kids as much as they can, while they grow up.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY, We know we deserve it!

Happy Cinco de Maio. What, No Hot Sauce.

Happy Cinco de Maio.

I once had this holiday explained to me by a friend from work. That was several years ago.

I think it’s sort of a Mexican Independence Day. The small Mexican army defeated the last invaders to the America’s, a French army that was not only bigger, but better equipped to fight.

It would compare to a David and Goliath sort of story, where the small fighter successfully defeats the bad, larger enemy.

So Have a good day on May 5th, Cinco de Maio. Click for more info.

I do have one serious question though. If anyone can answer this I would greatly appreciate it.

I have asked many managers of Mexican restaurants here in the states and have never gotten an answer.

My question involves of course, Mexican cuisine. Why don’t the Mexican restaurants in the Central Northeastern U.S. serve any type of hot sauce with the food. No matter what I order, they never serve or even offer any type of hot sauce with the meal. I have been to better than 30 of these restaurants and not even a bottle of Tabasco, What Gives? I would even settle for a bottle of Red Hot.

Now in every Mexican restaurant that I visited, they did have some sort of an appetizer that consisted of chips and usually one or two bowls of salsa dip, of varying warmth. I love that, but the problem arises when my meal comes, No Hot Sauce. I Love my Food with Hot Sauce. I have to ask the server if they have any and my answer to the dissatisfaction of my taste buds is usually no.

So being the creative American that I am, I usually ask the waitress before she gets away, to bring back another bowl of the hot salsa for the chips. When it arrives, I then proceed to smother my meal with the contents of the bowl, to try to make up for the lack of the hot stuff. Horrified onlookers usually gasp or laugh and point. One time a waitress actually sat down in the empty chair at the table beside me and the look on her face was crossed, somewhere between having a bad dream and jabbing your finger with a pin, but I still continue to doctor my plate to suit my palate anyway.

So if anyone can tell me why this is, I sure would appreciate the answer, because I’m getting tired of looking for a six shooter belt holster, that will hold a bottle of Red Hot and Tabasco.

HAPPY EASTER

SAVE AN EGG OR A CHOCOLATE BUNNY FOR ME!
Everyone have a safe and wonderful holiday.

To everyone experiencing rough times right now, as I am, remember that even in bad times we are still here and we deserve to have a little fun and enjoyment too. Even if it just involves sitting and thinking of all the fun that you had and will have again in your life, you make a good day for yourself and that’s something you keep with you forever.
