Detroiters, You just can’t have it both ways.

The Detroit school system has announced that it has to close, up to 45 of it’s schools through out the city, in order to carry out their plans of creating an up to date school system, that is state of the art.

Now that it has been announced, many people are thinking, boo hoo, there goes the school that I went to, if yours is on the list.

Well just remember this. It isn’t because there aren’t enough smart and creative people to come up with another plan or other ways of keeping and utilizing the empty buildings, it is because of the following.

The city can not afford the new schools and to keep the old ones, while they will just be vacant and not bringing in any money from being used is just to expensive to do.

So it really doesn’t matter what you choose to do, because there is no way you can fix both of the old ones and still have enough money to build a new one! You can’t do it with the money you have folks, so don’t even give it a second thought.

Just look at all the historic uniqueness that Tiger Stadium used to have and it had been declared a historic monument, but facts are facts. We lost the greatest thing in our whole Southeastern area and it was because no one could afford to do anything with it.

So either get with the new program or find enough guts to come up with a plan that would enable the city to keep the schools standing or it’s the wrecking ball for them also.

You can’t expect to completely renovate your school system on today’s hard times city budget and not expect to have to get rid of some of the old schools. You can’t have it both ways, so make your choice. New or old and that’s it!

Just remember you probably will still be able to find satellite images of them for several years after they are gone, to remember them by.
